About the Classroom
Planners:
Students are encouraged to use their planners to record homework and any notes they need to remember from school. The homework for all classes is always on the whiteboard at the end of the day and students are encouraged to copy that down into their planners. If a student doesn't use their planner and forgets the assignment, please email or call me and I can get that information for you.
Snacks:
Students may bring their own healthy snack daily. Chips, candy bars, etc. will not be allowed. Lunch is not until 12:25.
Reading Class:
Reading class in 5th grade lasts about an hour daily. We spend lots of time reading texts together as a class and practicing different reading comprehension strategies such as questioning, making inferences, summarizing, and more. Students are then expected to apply these same strategies to their own independently chosen texts. Students will sometimes write about their reading in short journal entries, and sometimes they will do projects that demonstrate their understanding of a particular reading strategy. Students are expected to read regularly at school and at home and to meet a reading goal each quarter.
